Who: Christina Ricci, Rosie O’Donnell, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Gaby Hoffmann, Demi Moore, Ashleigh Aston Moore, and Rita Wilson.
What’s the story: In 1970, four best friends share a summer of happy times, hard situations and create life-long memories.
Why it’s amazing: This movie is pure nostalgia about growing up. The story begins by showing best friends Roberta, Teeny, Samantha and Chrissy as women in 1991 and where their friendships went, then back tracks to the summer of 1970, where they entered their teenage years. Through laughter and tears, hard family situations and adventure, all while raising money to purchase their joint tree house, the four girls learn that no matter what, their bond will be there as their lives change.
What is bad about it: It can be a bit sappy, but what teenage girly flick isn’t?
Wonderful scene in the movie: When Samantha confronts Crazy Pete in the cemetery and he has an encouraging talk with her about not dwelling on the hard things in life and to focus on the good.
Fun Fact: The original name of the movie was going to be “The Gaslight Addition”, which ended up being the name of the neighbourhood that the four girls and their families lived.
