A Domestic Recipe – Complete Cobb Salad

Most of my daily eating is not quite complete without a great salad. I am all about my veggies, but things that are green, grow from the ground and are good for you can be boring in taste if devoured on their own.

To add more vegetables and protein into your diet in a delicious and colourful way without sacrificing the taste, here is a fabulous cobb salad recipe that is delicious and will make you feel good as you eat!

What I love about this recipe is that if you wish to take away or add ingredients, you can! For example, I made alterations to this recipe because I dislike blue cheese with a passion, so feel free to alter it as you see fit.

Here is my version (with the recipe below the picture)…

1 Head of Iceberg Lettuce (Shredded)
1/2 Head of Romaine Lettuce (Torn up in larger pieces)
2 Boneless Chicken Breasts (Cooked & lightly seasoned with pepper, if desired)
6 Slices of Turkey Bacon
2 Avocados
2 Packages of Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes
1 Cup of Grated Cheddar Cheese
2 Hard Boiled Eggs
Sundried Tomato and Oregano Dressing

1) Wash 1 Head of Iceberg Lettuce and shred it up

2) Wash 1/2 Head of Romaine Lettuce and tear up into smaller pieces, keeping the pieces larger than the shredded up Iceberg Lettuce

3) Dice up the pre-cooked and seasoned Chicken Breasts and make sure it measures 3 cups (you want to make sure you have enough meat)

4) Slice up the pre-cooked and crispy Turkey Bacon into small pieces

5) Peel, de-pit and dice up the Avocados

6) Cut up the Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes into halves

7) Measure out 1 cup of Grated Cheddar Cheese

8) Grate up the 2 Hard Boiled Eggs

9) Lay the mix of Iceberg and Romaine Lettuce on the bottom of your plate.

10) Evenly divide and arrange the chicken, tomatoes, avocado, eggs, turkey bacon and cheddar cheese in the row on top of the lettuce.

11) Drizzle the Sundried Tomato and Oregano dressing over top.

12) Put the leftovers in the fridge – this recipe can make you 3 to 4 salads.

13) Enjoy!

Put the Flowers & Chocolates aside – Spread the love all year round!

For the first time in three years, I had a main squeeze to spend Valentine’s Day with. My boyfriend and I shared an amazingly romantic evening together to celebrate and it certainly made me grateful to have such a wonderful man in my life. It also made me think a lot about love and how our actions make our loved ones feel all year round.

When I think of loved ones, I don’t just narrow it down to spouses and significant others. I think of family, friends, colleagues and even those acquaintances that have been in our lives for years. Everyone plays a purpose in our lives and each individual has a unique power to bring joy to it, no matter who it is and how they are connected to you.

There is that famous saying: “Treat those the way you wish to be treated.” I firmly believe in this policy. The more kindness and respect you show to others, the more they will show it to you. And somewhere among all of this mutual respect and kindness, good karma will enter the picture. I truly believe in this idea of good karma as well.

Aside from the usual good deeds and support I try to provide to all of my loved ones, I actually came up with a list of things one could do to bring love and happiness to others, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Just remember though – it is the little things that count…

1) Say that simple thank you – To everyone, from your significant other to your family to your best friend to the Starbucks barista.

2) Flash those pearly whites at people who look glum – It could be a busy sales rep at your favourite clothing store or a frustrated mobile customer service rep. Giving them a smile will ease their stress and might even make them smile!

3) Tell at least one person a day that you love them – Your parents, siblings, significant other or even a friend. It will bring cheer to their day.

4) Send an email to a long-lost friend – You may not regain the friendship you once had, but it will warm the person’s heart once they know and hear that you are thinking about them.

5) Hugging is sometimes the best therapy – Okay, not everyone is into hugs, but sometimes, a good hug from another feels great.

6) Acknowledge other people’s special days – Birthdays, graduations, engagements, wedding days, work promotions, arrival of new babies… whatever it is, take a few minutes to make that phone call, write that email, post on their Facebook wall or whatever you would like to show them that you care.

There are probably many other ways to show your loved ones how much you care about them. This is only the beginning! Love, in any way, shape or form, is like a rose. It is beautiful, delicate and sweet!

Aqua, Blue, Navy!

Even with the winter blues, it hasn’t kept me away from one of my favourite colours. Instead of connecting it to the grey moods and dark skies, these many shades of blue can bring cheer, warmth and a vibrant perk-up to anyone’s cold days and nights:

Here are the labels of my favourite blue things (from top left to bottom right): My fuzzy blue scarf from The Gap, my multi-strap wear purse from Kate Spade, my funky two-week chip free nail polish from CND Shellac, my sexy half-plether, half denim pants from Dutch Blonde, my handy notebook from Poppin and my comfy sweats from Pink by Victoria Secret.

Peach Beauty Pick – Arbonne Eye Liner

In the last three years, with more PR industry events, friends’ weddings and fancy occasions to attend, I have become a little more experimental with my eye makeup – especially eye liner.

When a wonderful representative from Arbonne contacted me with the opportunity to try out products from this skin care line, I jumped on the chance. With Arbonne’s products being based on botanical principles, I was curious about this line’s items, specifically their makeup offerings, and wanted to put it to the test.

In this first of three Arbonne posts, I wanted to share my experiences with two different eye liners from Arbonne: The Liquid Eye Liner and The Eye Liner Pencil.

The Liquid Eye Liner is a precisely edged brush that helps to draw clean and dramatic strokes to line the eyes. It is wonderful because once the liquid eye liner is drawn on and dries, it lasts for several hours and looks as fresh as it did right after application. I selected this in brown to match my dark brown eyes and my long brunette locks.

The Eye Liner Pencil is a roll-up liner with a very sturdy pencil-like casing. I selected this in the charcoal shade to go with the grey and silver tones that I love wearing in the winter.

Arbonne’s eye liner goes on very nicely. It has a hard and strong makeup led easy for application, but is smooth and can draw silky lines on the lid with its special rounded edge. The charcoal shade is softer than the typical jet black, so I enjoy wearing my liner a little thicker with this Arbonne pencil.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Arbonne eye make up products. The only thing I would say is that one pays for the natural, botanical-based products. These items do cost more than your average drug store makeup counter brands, but the quality is lovely.
